Principal Software Test Engineer
Responsible for Creation of test plans, specifications and automation for core components of the next generation Family History Software. Developed Java API test automation, verifying integration of the core system components and their interaction with an Oracle database. Test platforms include Windows XP and Linux systems, implementing JBOSS Application servers and Oracle 9i database instances. Developed an XML Repository in Java for testing Client driven synchronization processes. Developed tools for the test and development teams to quickly generate test data on the database or retrieve existing data on the database for results validation in automated tests.  Employed shell scripts as needed to automate various tasks in test environments.  Developed and Executed Load tests using Mercury LoadRunner and Segue SilkPerformer.  Developed Java APIs for Silk Performer to interface with, providing the ability to access a test database and obtain unique test data, solving data conflict problems that had been encountered during load testing.  Developed Metrics gathering tools, using JSPs, to provide trend data for performance test execution.  Developed an API set to parse the SilkPerformer overview reports, add the measures to a database, retrieve the measures from the database, integrate with JfreeChart to create charts for the measures, and dynamically create web pages to present the data publicly.  Developed extensive automation using SilkPerformer's proprietary language.  Created an MD5 conversion API in Java to facilitate testing a product that required MD5 keys to be provided with HTTP requests.   Planned, coordinated, and executed Performance testing at an AppLabs facility to test off site product behavior and performance.  Extended JUnit to create a base class (FamilySearchTestCase) and framework that is used throughout the organization for test execution.  Created a threaded test execution tool to allow for load and stress testing, using existing test automation, based on the FamilySearchTestCase base class.  Set up Hudson jobs to manage test execution, providing test result trends, and manage nightly test execution.  Created an automation and execution framework using TestNG and Selenuim to test the new FamilySearch interface.

 

Six Continents Hotels, Salt Lake City, Utah (June 2002 - January 2003)

Consultant - Sr. Software Engineer / Siebel Integration QAE

Responsible for defining Software and Hardware requirements for testing the Six Continents Siebel implementation based on initial prototype performance and anticipated usage requirements. Configured hardware and software and performed Siebel 7 installations for Siebel implementation prototype.  Worked with Siebel integration team to insure prototype met Six Continents’ functionality requirements.  Performed testing on Siebel prototype to ensure functionality, performance, and stability where at an acceptable level for selection as a CRM solution.  Load tested mainframe integration products (Jacada, CELCorp, Seagull) to determine middleware solution viability. Provided product analysis for Rational Robot, Segue Silk Performer, and Mercury Loadrunner to determine which would provide the best automated load test solution for the CRM implementation. Set up and configured test environments, including hardware and software installations on Windows, Sun, and Mac Platforms.  Configured switches for network connectivity.

Responsible for providing cross-platform test coverage for the Siebel CRM product line. Work in conjunction with QA Engineering team to provide test coverage using Multiple Platform/Database combinations for the Siebel Enterprise Integration Manager and Siebel Tools Components. Test coverage includes Windows, Solaris, and AIX platforms using SQL Server, DB2, and Oracle Databases. Use Mercury's Loadrunner to produce automation, simulating real-world usage scenarios. Developed automation tools for the installation and configuration of Siebel and accompanying products for Solaris and AIX environments.

Responsible for designing and implementing an automated test infrastructure. Developed to a code base to provide key QA functionality for Java API automated tests and establish standards for development efforts. Developed and Implemented Automated Test Harness.  Conducted White-Box testing.  Developed comprehensive Smoke and Functional Test Suite in Java for the Cisco CSRC Java APIs.

 

 

Kana, Manchester, New Hampshire (August 2000 - November 2000)

Consultant - Sr. Software Engineer / SQA

Developed framework and tests for Java API test effort. Created base classes for the QA automation team to provide core functions for test development. Classes included an abstract QABase class to provide the framework for all API tests to be developed from and a QADb class which provided an interface to the Oracle database that the product was connecting to. The latter of the two allowing the verification of database modifications via the Kana product.  Conducted White-Box testing.

 

Sun Microsystems, Burlington, Massachusetts (June 1999 - August 2000)

Consultant - Sr. Software Engineer / SQA

Responsible for design and development of automation and test coverage for four component areas of an eight-way workgroup server prototype. Wrote test plans, specs, and checklists for CPU / Memory, Multi-Processor / Multi-Threads, Hotplug, and Core Kernel test areas. Assembled all test suites and resources needed to provide coverage for areas of responsibility. Created DIMM matrix consisting of over five thousand memory combinations for CPU / Memory testing. Developed source control and migration tool for the group's test documentation using Perl. Developed test automation in Java to exercise the Multi-Processor / Multi-Threaded capabilities of the prototype server. Moved to the PC Netlink group in a tools and test development role to orchestrate the establishment of an automated test infrastructure. Defined test cycle model to implement for the life of the product. Created source tree for SQA test automation under Teamware / SCCS source control. Migrated legacy code to source control environment and created make files as needed. Repaired legacy tests written in C and Bourne Shell and wrote new test cases as appropriate. Used the Bourne shell to develop an environment for executing all Server-side test scripts and reporting results upon completion. Executed test automation against all build releases and reported bugs as they were found. Developed a Java based, client-server test management application to facilitate test execution across the network on Solaris and Windows Clients.   Conducted Black-Box and Regression testing.

 

Compaq / Digital, Nashua, New Hampshire (March 1999 - June 1999)

Assumed integral role in front end test efforts proceeding April shipment date of initial project assignment. Initial target product was a plug-in to an Outlook 98 client on an Exchange 5.5 Server. Responsible for test case development and implementation. Utilized target product to create stress test automation in a Client-Server environment. Conducted extensive manual testing. Secondary product focus was a web-based interface to create dynamic distribution lists using a variety of data sources including LDAP (Exchange Server), SQL Server 6.5 and 7.0 Databases, as well as Oracle Databases. Created Automation, using SQL, to create database environment for test execution.

 

 

 

 

UNIFI Communications, Lowell Massachusetts (November 1997 - March 1999)

Software Engineer

Technical lead for SQA infrastructure group. Responsible for design and implementation of test plan strategy. Developed automation for test cases using C, C++, Java, along with DOS and UNIX Scripting. Worked in conjunction with team members to develop and implement an automated test system.  Developed SQL scripts to migrate  test case data from an existing Access database a new test automation management system. Created a test case repository database on MS Access for Reporting and entry of new test cases. Participated in test code and design reviews for the SQA group. Led effort to test the functionality of a Unicode implementation utilizing Oracle forms on an NT System interfacing with an existing Oracle 7 Database. Conducted test efforts on multiple Projects including Web-based applications, Native Application Rendering, and Network Traffic Management components of the UNIFI IDN network. Conducted testing in an X500 mail environment using test tools to generated and route correspondence based on LDAP field parameters passed in as string arguments. Tracked and insured resolution of issues that arose through test efforts in the SQA environment. Assisted in the development and implementation of UNIFI Software products through functional, component level, regression, and end to end test efforts.
